History of 406 For Kids

The heartfelt beginning of a nonprofit built to brighten hard days.

406 for Kid’s mission is to spread joy, happiness, and fun during the struggles of childhood illness for kids and their families. They turn crappy into happy by giving parents and families a break and moral support while their child is hospitalized.

How It All Started...

For siblings and children undergoing treatment, they can burn-off energy in the playroom.

With four playhouses including a dress-up boutique, a market, a clinic, and a camper, in the playroom kids can just be kids.

For the teens, we have a video/gaming room. And of course, the best part of the playroom, is a ride down the slide from the main floor to the playroom.

The outside is just as amazing as the inside of the Sunshine Factory.

With a children’s playground on one side of the property, including two slides, a tunnel, and lots of climbing apparatus.

On the other side of the property, is a mediation garden with a water feature and sculpture, a place to reflect and enjoy nature.

Valicity's Princess Ball

To celebrate all of the love, support and generosity of their friends and family, they held, a “Princess Ball”.

It was a celebration with tuxes, tiaras, and full-length ball gowns. It was a chance to let Valicity live, if even for a night, the life of a princess. It was the only thing she ever wanted to be.

Sadly, a short time later, Valicity relapsed. Just two months later she was gone.

When Two Hearts Imagined Something Bigger

Lori and Candy, Soul Sisters: Shortly after the 2019 Princess Ball Lori and Candy met and a new vision was born. They would build a home, a very special home, where families with children undergoing treatment at Logan Health Children’s could go to rest, re-charge and gather strength to continue fighting on behalf of their children undergoing treatment nearby.

As fate would have it, there was an open lot for sale on the top of a hill just 100 steps from the front door of the hospital.

The Moment the Sunshine Factory Became Real

It was a sign. THIS is where The Sunshine Factory would be built…and it was, opening on July 1st, 2022. It serves as a remembrance of Valicity and as beacon of hope for sick children undergoing treatment as well as their siblings, parents and caregivers. But mostly, most of all, as a symbol that even in the darkest hour, after the fiercest storm, there is always a rainbow to show the way forward to a brighter day.
